Buenaflor Pablo, a room attendant in the Morris Inn, recently won the 2017 Faces of Tourism Award for St. Joseph County, Indiana. Originally from the Philippines, she moved to South Bend with her husband in July of 2015 after having served ten years in the hospitality industry in Singapore.
Buenaflor is very proud of the job she does and takes great pains to ensure each guest room is detailed like a photo shoot. Every slip of paper is pristine and straight, the tile grout is immaculate, the mirrors gleam, and the beds will bounce a quarter. She exemplifies teamwork and assists other staff in completing their tasks before the shift is over.
A natural leader and always eager to develop her skills, Buenaflor has taken advantage of the opportunity to attend a wide variety of leadership and customer service classes while working at the Morris Inn. She is learning to create housekeeping task boards in the property management system so that she can advance in her career as a staff lead and trainer.
Buenaflor’s own words tell the story of why she is a Face of Tourism in St. Joseph County. “Although some might think being a room attendant is not a very glamorous job, I know that it is very important for Morris Inn and the people that stay here. Cleaning and organizing come naturally to me. I take a lot of pride in my work and when a person stays in a room that I have prepared, I want them to be impressed with how nice everything is.”
