Director of Campus Dining
Chris Abayasinghe was named director of Campus Dining, formerly Food Services, effective October 21, 2013. In this capacity, he is responsible for an 8,500-student residential dining program providing over 2.1 million meals per year; a central food warehousing and production facility; 29 food service units; campus catering operations that service over 8,000 events a year; coin-operated food and beverage concessions; and laundry vending. Additionally, the department provides resident food service for the Congregation of Holy Cross, including two residences, a seminary, and a nursing home as well as for the campus student health center and child care center.
Abayasinghe has broad experience in the collegiate food service industry. Before joining the University, he was assistant director of dining at Williams College located in Williamstown, Massachusetts. His budget responsibilities included managing the student dining and meal card program, mail services, vending and laundry operations. In this role, Abayasinghe developed many dining satisfaction programs and sustainability initiatives including the conceptualization and opening of new dining venues. Prior to that, he served as director of operations at Sodexo Campus Services at Eastern Connecticut State University, and as a residential dining manager.
Abayasinghe graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Eastern Connecticut State University concentrating in finance and human resources, and also holds a Masters of Business Administration from Northeastern University with a concentration in finance.
Abayasinghe and his wife, Tiranthi, along with their children, Liam, Aidan and Emilie, reside in Granger, Indiana.
